20 St Giles Gate
IntroductionSt Giles is a broad street that ran from the west side of the city and lead directly to the market place and a gate at St Giles' is first recorded in documents in 1288. St Giles' Gate was also known as Port S. Egidii (16 & 18 Edward I) and as Newport Gate, and was rebuilt in the first half of the 14th century under the auspices of one Richard Spynk, citizen of Norwich.
