Sloughbottom sports plans submitted

Plans to create an artificial grass pitch and a sports hub for Sloughbottom Park have been submitted for approval to the council’s planning committee. 

Councillor Carli Harper, cabinet member for finance and major projects said: “Installing the all-weather pitch and sports hub is part of our wider plans to install some great facilities at the park and create more opportunities for young people to get fit, active and have some fun too!” 

The current planning application forms part of the wider £7.6m regeneration project of the park in Mile Cross. 

The full regeneration project includes:  

  1. Artificial Grass Pitch
  2. New Sports Hub with Changing Places Toilet
  3. Refurbishment of existing Pavilion to include café, public toilets, and community room
  4. destination Play Area
  5. BMX track improvements and modular storage
  6. car park, paths, signage, and lighting
  7. Repairs to Dolphin Path

Last year, the council ran a consultation on the proposed new play area at Sloughbottom Park. We received 741 responses, with 68% of design votes coming from under-18s.  

Option 2, Ecology Giants, emerged as the preferred concept with 360 votes (49%). Option 1, The Great Owl, received 225 votes (30%), and Option 3, The Nest, received 159 votes (21%).
