We are thrilled to announce that our home improvement team has won the prestigious DFG Adaptations Service of the Year at the National Healthy Housing Awards 2024.

This award recognises the team's exceptional dedication to supporting residents in living independently, safely, and with dignity in their homes. Organised by Foundations, the awards celebrate outstanding efforts in adapting homes to meet the health and wellbeing needs of local communities.

Cllr Beth Jones, portfolio holder for housing, expressed the council’s pride in the achievement:
"This is a fantastic achievement for our home improvement team, and we couldn’t be prouder. Their tireless work ensures our residents can maintain independence and enjoy quality lives. This award is a testament to their hard work and compassion, and to our council’s ongoing commitment to creating a fairer Norwich. But we recognise there’s still much to do to address housing inequalities and support all our residents."

The team’s holistic approach to home improvement combines a personalised service with innovative partnerships that go beyond physical adaptations. Collaborations with organisations such as Age UK, Norfolk County Council and Citizens Advice have integrated social care into the home improvement process, tackling issues such as social isolation and health inequalities.

Cllr Adam Giles, portfolio holder for a fairer Norwich, praised the team's dedication:
"Winning this award is a proud moment for Norwich. It reflects our home improvement team’s unwavering commitment to delivering a service that is efficient, compassionate, and impactful. Last year, over 480 residents were supported to stay in their homes, and this recognition inspires us to keep striving for better outcomes for all."

Last year alone, the team administered 650 grants, including 479 Disabled Facilities Grants, distributing over £3.5 million to improve residents’ homes and lives.

While this award celebrates the exceptional achievements of the home improvement team, the council remains focused on continuing its mission to create a fairer, healthier Norwich for everyone.
