Our home improvement team has been shortlisted for the prestigious *DFG Adaptations Service of the Year* at the National Healthy Housing Awards 2024.

This shortlisting recognises our team’s dedication to ensuring residents live independently, safely, and with dignity in their own homes. The awards, organised by Foundations, highlight exceptional efforts in adapting homes to meet the health and wellbeing needs of local communities.

Our home improvement team have shown a steadfast commitment to helping residents live fulfilling lives, regardless of their housing situation or health needs and have ensured a faster, more personalised service for all residents, whether council tenants or not. The team’s comprehensive service range covers everything from adaptations for accessibility to holistic support for residents with complex health needs.

Cllr Beth Jones, portfolio holder for housing, commented: “We are thrilled and humbled by this recognition. Our primary focus is in creating a fairer Norwich for all and the welfare of our residents is paramount to achieving this.

Through the home improvement team, we aim to support people in maintaining their independence and quality of life. This nomination is a testament to our team’s hard work and our council’s commitment to improving the lives of those we serve. It’s about more than just adaptations; it’s about creating a safe and supportive environment that truly meets individual needs.

The home improvement team now manages more than 1800 enquiries a year and has developed innovative partnerships with local healthcare and voluntary services to provide a seamless support system. Through collaborations with organisations such as Age UK and Citizens Advice, we have integrated social care directly into the home improvement process. This approach allows us to tackle broader health and wellbeing issues associated with housing, such as social isolation and health inequalities.

Last year the service administered and delivered 650 grants, 479 of which were DFGs, awarding over £3.5m in grants with each grant averaging £5,940.

Cllr Adam Giles, portfolio holder for a fairer Norwich said: ‘We are proud to be shortlisted alongside so many outstanding teams, I am confident that our commitment to efficiency, high satisfaction levels, and compassion will be recognised at these awards. We helped over 480 residents to remain in their homes last year alone and aim to offer an expanded service very soon.”

The awards ceremony will take place on 18th December 2024 at Stoller Hall, Manchester, where the winners will be announced.
