Norwich City Council is proud to back Gas Safety Week 2024, running from 9-15 September, to raise awareness on the importance of gas safety.
This year's theme, “Every Check Counts,” highlights the essential steps every household should take to ensure their gas appliances are safe.
Paul Cook, interim head of building and safety compliance for Norwich City Council said: “Gas safety is critical in preventing dangerous incidents. Every simple check could save lives, so we urge residents to stay vigilant and keep their homes safe.”
Residents are reminded to:
- Ensure they have their landlords gas safety check undertaken annually
- Have their own appliances serviced by Gas Safe registered engineers
- Install and regularly test carbon monoxide (CO) alarms
Carbon monoxide poisoning, caused by faulty appliances, is particularly dangerous, being both invisible and odourless. Look out for warning signs such as yellow flames or black marks and contact the council or a qualified engineer if you spot anything unusual.
