Christmas and New Year closure information

The city council’s main offices and phone lines will be closed from 4pm on Friday 22 December and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

We’re still available if you need us, with many of our services available online. All online forms will remain available over the closure period, but those which need processing by council staff will be dealt with after the holiday.

In case of emergencies during the festive closure, please call our out of hours service 0344 980 3333.

Heating or hot water emergency

Council tenants or leaseholders who have a heating or hot water emergency can call the out of hours number 0344 980 3333 or Gasway on 01603 258617. Please note, Gasway are closed for the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

Non-urgent enquiries or issues

Any non-urgent enquiries will be processed from Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Bulky waste

Bulky waste collections will stop at the end of the day on Friday 22 December and resume on Wednesday 3 January.

Car parking

To help keep traffic flowing during this busy time, civil enforcement officers will continue to patrol over the festive period so please be aware of on-street parking restrictions.

The city council’s pay and display and multi-storey car parks will be open as usual during the festive period.

Garden waste collections

The last garden waste collection will be on Friday 22 December. The first collection after the new year will be on Monday 8 January.

Payments

There will be delays with posting money to accounts over the closure period (for example residents paying rent or council tax).

This will mean that any recent payments made will not appear on customer accounts until the first week of January.

Pest control

The pest control service will be closed on 25 and 26 December, reopen between 27 and 29 December, and then closed until it reopens on 2 January.

Riverside Leisure Centre

Riverside Leisure Centre will be closed on 24, 25 and 26 December. It will be open between 6:30am and 7pm from 27 to 30 December, then closed on 31 December and 1 January. It will reopen as normal on 2 January.

The Halls

The Halls will be closed to the public from Saturday 24 December for the Christmas period and will remain closed until spring 2025 for major refurbishment. The Halls will be open for Open Christmas on Christmas Day and for a Norwich POPS concert on Monday 1 January.

The Norman Centre

The Norman Centre will close at 2pm on 23 December and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 2 January.

Waste and recycling collections

There will be changes to waste and recycling collections. Check your revised collection dates.
