A carnival atmosphere and community spirit will fill the streets of Norwich when Lord Mayor’s Weekend 2023 returns this summer.
Three days of entertainment in the heart of the city, from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 July 2023, will show off the best of what Norwich has to offer.
The Lord Mayor’s Procession returns with the theme ‘Sights of the City’, with the annual carnival parading through the city centre featuring an array of talent. Expect acrobats, dancers, music and spectacular displays to wow the crowds.
As well as familiar favourites such as the Lord Mayor’s Procession, early plans for 2023 include unmissable musical performances, entertainment and food offerings - the whole weekend is set to be a feast for the senses.
The City Hall Stage will play host to Voices of the City, featuring superstar poets, comedy and storytelling. Audiences will also be treated to very special performances from a collective featuring young voices from across the city, a fabulous choir and some of the world’s finest beatboxers.
Sounds of the City, taking place in Chapelfield Gardens, will showcase local musical talents, interactive family shows, and a funfair. Later in the evening our friends from Wild Paths Festival will be curating our Sounds of the City mainstage that will leave you dancing all the way home.
Tastes of the City will serve up the finest selection of tasty treats, from Bao Buns to Burgers, Seafood to Sundaes, with an array of food to suit all tastes.
Lord Mayor’s is the second oldest carnival in the UK, started by the Norwich Guild in medieval times – and the 2023 edition is set to be sensational.
Cllr Alan Waters, leader of Norwich City Council, said:
“This fantastic community event is always a great opportunity to welcome people into Norwich and proudly celebrate everything our wonderful city has to offer.
“We are all so excited for this year’s Lord Mayor’s Weekend, which promises to be as vibrant and entertaining as ever.”
