100 days of community activity begins

Published on Tuesday, 8th March 2022

The ‘Norwich 100 Day Challenge’ has started!

Community connectors have been out in Mile Cross, Lakenham, Heathgate and Mancroft in recent months, chatting to local residents about what it’s really like to live in their neighbourhoods and communities, and asking them about what their hopes are for their local areas.

In response to what was said, various workshops and skill sharing opportunities are being set up across 100 days between now and May to help residents make these aspirations happen. The sessions will run in the four neighbourhoods highlighted above.

From learning how to make gardens bee-friendly, to finding out more about first aid, setting up your own community group, or even learning how to create hospitable highways for hedgehogs – workshops can be available to cater for all needs, and range from formal training to informal skill swapping.

Details on what is available and how to sign up is available at www.lumi.org.uk/skills.

Anyone who wants to suggest an activity that they’d love to attend can email community@norwich.gov.uk with their ideas.

Any not-for-profit groups who can support skills development in the community can visit https://www.lumi.org.uk/organisations/view/the-crf-community-renewal-fund/ or email Tracey.Drake@bitc.org.uk to ask about how they can get involved

This project has been possible through the city council, along with a number of partners, securing £500,000 from the government’s Community Renewal Fund (CRF), which aims to support people and communities to pilot projects and approaches across key areas.

Councillor Alan Waters, leader of the council, said: “The next three months represent a huge opportunity for people to gain vital skills and knowledge, enabling them to develop and support their local communities in new ways.

“We hope as many people as possible get involved and learn new things, which will benefit not only the individuals themselves, but also the city as a whole.”
