Stay warm this winter with Roar Power

Published on Thursday, 1st October 2020

Our council-run energy provider is hoping to keep people warm for less this winter.

Roar Power was launched last year to give East Anglian residents a chance to use renewable energy at competitive prices.

It was launched in conjunction with French company ENGIE, but highly-regarded Octopus Energy took over the scheme earlier this year. The switch of provider led to cheaper tariffs across the board, and an opportunity to benefit from Octopus’ award-winning customer service – while maintaining the strong environmental and community factors which underpinned the existing offer.

With the Covid19 pandemic meaning people are spending more time at home, and in challenging economic circumstances, the city council are keener than ever to sign local residents up to the scheme.

Councillor Kevin Maguire, cabinet member for safe and sustainable city environment at Norwich City Council, said:

“We launched Roar Power to give our citizens more choice regarding their energy provider, offering an option that took into account financial, environmental and ethical concerns.

“Now more than ever, it is vitally important to do what we can to support our communities and this initiative is one that ticks a lot of boxes for us.

“We hope to see many people join up in the next few months, as this is a truly unique offer which benefits the planet as well people’s pockets.”

Any sign-up fees generated though Roar Power will be directly used to tackle fuel poverty in Norwich, funding other council initiatives to support the most vulnerable.
