We’re asking people to share their memories of any previous Lord Mayor’s Celebration, as the event goes virtual for 2020.
It is one of biggest events in the city’s calendar each year, bringing a range of free performances and activities to the city centre over three days.
The current guidance on social distancing during the coronavirus outbreak means that this year’s celebration, due to take place from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 July, cannot happen physically, but the council is still encouraging residents to get involved in marking the event from their own homes.
Councillor Alan Waters, leader of the council, said: “it was disappointing to have to cancel the Lord Mayor’s Celebration for the first time on record, but unfortunately the current situation made such a decision inevitable.
“We will look to provide content and resources that allow our residents to mark the occasion virtually, before we return to the normal format next year.”
The city council invites people to share their photos from past LMCs to events@norwich.gov.uk or by hashtagging #LMC20 on Twitter. Some of the best will be shared on the council’s website and social media platforms.
The council’s events and communications teams are currently working with partners to create further ways of celebrating this special weekend at home.
Plans include an online Q&A with the Lord Mayor, Councillor Vaughan Thomas, puppet making workshops, family acrobatic sessions, music making and the return of the much-loved Pirate Party on local radio.
