Weekly update on the city’s response to COVID-19 – 22 May

Published on Friday, 22nd May 2020

Weekly update: 22 May We want to make sure residents and businesses in Norwich are kept informed of the impact of coronavirus on essential services.

An overview of this week’s key updates – 22 May 2020

Council Tax support

More than 2,000 people have had their Council Tax bills reduced to zero, with a further 1,229 set to follow. Read the news article for details.

Using our parks and open spaces

Please remember to keep at least two metres (six feet) from people you don’t live with at all times.

While play areas and the majority of the sports equipment must still not be used, and the toilets remain closed, outdoor tennis is now available, with a number of restrictions and guidelines to be followed. More: www.norwich.gov.uk/tennis

Car parks

With more people returning to work, the government advice has been to walk or cycle where possible, rather than take public transport if it can be avoided.

This is not an option for everyone, however, and for some driving is the only solution. As such, we have re-opened St Andrews multi-storey car park. To help make sure you keep a good distance from others when using the car park, we are operating a one-way system for pedestrians. More about St Andrews multi-storey car park.

Arrangements for the Lord Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Vaughan Thomas, and the Sheriff, Dr Marian Prinsley, will have their terms of office extended to 18 months rather than the usual 12 months. More about the Lord Mayor and sheriff changes.

Support and advice for businesses

The government has published a full range of business support and guidance, which you can find on Gov.uk.

For advice and guidance, as well as health and safety regulations; along with what financial support you might be entitled to, see our business support page.

Waste and recycling

Remember, with the bank holiday, your collections will be one day later.
