The city gets set to celebrate the start of the civic year on Sunday 18 June with a procession and service.
Everyone is welcome to attend this colourful event, which begins at 10am in the city centre, in honour of the new Lord Mayor, Councillor David Fullman, and Sheriff, David Walker, of Norwich.
The public will want to arrive early on Gaol Hill so as to not miss a moment of the event. From 10am, following the Lord Mayor of Norwich formally announcing the opening of the Norwich Food & Drink Festival, the Sheriff and invited guests will join him on the steps of City Hall ready for a procession.
To be joined by an academic procession made up of the representatives of the University of East Anglia and Norwich University of the Arts and other representatives, the civic procession will move along St Peters Street, towards Gaol Hill where it will be joined by the Norwich Whifflers and Snap the Dragon.
Together this impressive group of Norwich dignitaries and guests will process along London Street, Bank Plain, Queen Street, then enter Ethelbert Gate into the grounds of Norwich Cathedral for a service led by the Dean of Norwich, the Very Reverend Jane Hedges to start at 11am.
All are welcome to enjoy the procession and church service, which promises to be a spectacular event.
Road closures
St Peters Street is closed for the food and drink festival and Gaol Hill will be closed from 10am to 10.25am.
