When you are referred to the council for homelessness assistance, you will be assigned a Housing Adviser who will go through your housing options with you. These will be given to you in what is called a Personalised Housing Plan, that includes steps that the council must take and that you must take to try and resolve your housing situation.
There may be several options available to you. These may include:
Private Rented Accommodation – you will be required as part of a housing application to search for private rented accommodation. It is recommended that you search for options including shared accommodation, that may be affordable to you. As part of a housing application, your Housing Adviser can complete an affordability assessment to determine how much you are able to pay in rent. You are also able to search for properties outside of the Norwich City Council boundary that have good travel links to Norwich, or if you have support networks in other parts of the UK.
Council Housing – it may be possible to add you to the Council’s Housing Register. Your Housing Adviser will go through this option with you.
Supported Housing – your Housing Adviser may also refer you for supported accommodation in Norwich. A placement at a supported housing provider may offer you the support to become independent and understand how to manage your own tenancy in the UK.
