Mousehold Heath guided walks

Explore Mousehold Heath with local wildlife experts and heath wardens on our 2024 programme of FREE guided walks where you'll see the amazing variety of species that inhabit this local nature reserve. 

Fungi walk

Moth survey evenings

  • Thursday 25 July, 9.45pm until late
  • Wednesday 14 August, 9pm until late
  • Tuesday 10 September, 8pm until late

Join a Norwich City Council Mousehold Heath warden in using a light trap to catch, record and release the beautiful and diverse species of moth living in our parks and gardens.

Please meet in the Pitch and Putt Car Park, at the top of Gurney Road, Mousehold Heath, Norwich. Grid ref: TG247104.

Community wildlife workshops

  • Monday 29 April, 11am – 3pm: Introduction to moths
  • Tuesday 23 July, 11am – 3pm: Introduction to butterflies
  • Thursday 5 December, 11am – 3pm: Introduction to winter birds

Join a local wildlife expert and a Norwich City Council Mousehold Heath warden, to look at the wide variety of threatened and characteristic species which inhabit the site. The sessions will each focus on a different species. After an hour in the classroom, the rest of the session will be spent exploring the site. Light refreshments are provided during the lunch break.

Dawn chorus survey walk

  • Thursday 9 May: 4.30am – 6.15am. Followed by breakfast

Join a Mousehold warden in carrying out a B.T.O, Common Bird Census transect survey walk to mark International Dawn Chorus Week at the start of May – a worldwide celebration of nature’s daily miracle. Starting from the car park below Zaks, See address details above.

Geodiversity Earth Heritage Walk

  • Wednesday 17 July, 10.30am – 12.30pm

Join Geologist Tim Holt-Wilson to explore the Earth Heritage Trail. Experience how past glacial activity and land use has shaped the landscape and how this supports biodiversity.

Management and wildlife walk

  • Wednesday 7 August, 2pm – 4pm

Join a Norwich City Council Mousehold Heath warden, to look at the wide variety of often scarce and threatened species that inhabit the site and how management work is being undertaken to conserve this biodiversity and prevent fires. Please meet in the car park below Zaks.
