Norwich City Council is the data controller for providing tenancy management, and we have a legal obligation to process your personal information. You may contact our data protection and information security officer by emailing dataprotection@norwich.gov.uk or by telephoning 0344 980 3333.
What will we do with your data?
We use it to process your housing application and manage your tenancy. We aim to keep your information for the life of your tenancy plus 12 years, with additional retention periods in the cases of continued debt or where other tenancy default has been reported, as stated in our Retention Schedule available on our website.
What are your rights?
Under data protection legislation you have the right to request access to your personal information to:
- ask for errors to be corrected
- restrict how your information is used
- object to how it is processed
- request that your data is deleted.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office if you are not happy with how your data is processed.
What are the consequences of you not providing data?
We will be unable to process your application for housing.
How will we share your data?
Information provided for your housing application and any subsequent tenancy, is shared internally with most council services in order to manage your tenancy, for example home options, revenues & benefits, ABATE, area management, community engagement and our customer contact team.
Externally we share your data with contractors that we engage to maintain your property, utility companies and partner agencies, and where required we will share your data with children and adult services, health and medical teams, and various support groups.
We may also share your details externally where we are lawfully required to do so for the prevention and detection of crime, adult and child safeguarding and fraud, for the collection of taxes or debt owed to this or another authority and with the Cabinet Office as part of the National Fraud Initiative.
