Norwich City Council is the data controller for providing temporary accommdation advice, securing a placement, and your temporary accommdation housing file. We have a statutory duty to process your personal information to support you. You may contact our data protection officer by emailing DPO@norwich.gov.uk
What will we do with your data?
We use it to process your homeless and housing applications and provide you with temporary accommodation. We aim to keep your information for 12 years, as stated in our Retention Schedule available on our website.
What are your rights?
Under data protection legislation you have the right to request access to your personal information to:
- ask for errors to be corrected
- restrict how your information is used
- object to how it is processed
- request that your data is deleted.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office if you are not happy with how your data is processed.
What are the consequences of you not providing data?
We will be unable to process your application or provide you with advice.
How will we share your data?
Information provided for temporary accommodation will be shared with housing providers to identify and secure a place. Once a provider has recieved your personal data, they are the data controller for this.
The council may also share your data, if appropriate, with social services and the police in order that they may carry out their statutory duties.
We also share your data with the Cabinet Office as part of the National Fraud Initiative AND externally where we are lawfully required to do so for the prevention and detection of crime and fraud, or for the collection of taxes.
