Household batteries

How to recycle household batteries

Place batteries in a separate carrier bag to small electrical items and put out next to your recycling or black waste bin by 6am on your collection day.

Please don’t put the bagged batteries in your bins as they won’t be collected and can cause a fire risk. Please note, we do not offer this service for communal bins.

Battery types we accept

  • 6v
  • D
  • C
  • AA
  • AAA
  • 9v
  • button
  • mobile phones batteries

Batteries we can’t accept

  • sealed lead acid/gel
  • 6v, 12v or 24v rechargeable
  • car

  • industrial

These items should not be placed in your recycling or black waste bin - they can be disposed of safely at one of the two recycling centres that serve the city, Norwich North and Norwich South, which are managed by Norfolk County Council.

You can also find places to recycle batteries close to where you live by using the Recycle Now website.
