Norwich City Council is consulting on the proposed increase to its Hackney Carriage fare tariffs.
Feedback on the changes to the tariffs are invited from Hackney Carriage licence holders and the general public from Wednesday 30 November to Monday 19 December 2022.
The proposed new tariffs (with the exception of waiting time) have been increased by 9%, which is based on the increased rate of Consumer Price Index since 2016.
Proposed fares
Tariff 1 (day rate)
- £3.30 for first 40 yards Then 20p per 175 yards
- £3.30 for first 37 metres Then 20p per 160 metres
Tariff 2 (evenings)
- £3.50 for first 40 yards Then 20p per 168 yards
- £3.50 for first 37 metres Then 20p per 154 metres
Tariff 3 (Sundays, nights and other public holidays)
- £3.70 for first 90 yards Then 20p per 157 yards
- £3.70 for first 82 metres Then 20p per 144 metres
Tariff 4 (Christmas and New Year)
- £5.90 for first 90 yards Then 20p per 137 yards
- £5.90 for first 82 metres Then 20p per 125 metres
For cleaning following the soiling of the interior of the vehicle – a charge not exceeding £80.

Any comments about the proposed fares should be in writing addressed to the Licensing Office, Norwich City Council, City Hall, Norwich, NR2 1NH to arrive not later than Monday 19 December 2022.
