Grass cutting
We cover a number of different grass cutting specifications and sites, including sports areas and conservation cuts. Litter is cleared from the area prior to cutting and cut grass blown/swept from paths afterwards.
During hot dry weather, grass cutting is monitored closely, and operations may be suspended until growing conditions return. During this time teams are re-allocated to other work.
Hedge and shrub maintenance
Shrub maintenance includes:
- Pruning
- Hoeing
- Spraying
- Mulching
- Edging
- Litter picking
Most of the work is undertaken during the winter period with lighter maintenance and litter picking carried out during the summer months.
Sports pitches and fine turf
NSCL maintain and prepare a variety of field and pitches during the sporting seasons, this includes repairs and pest control.
End of season renovation is also carried out including:
- Overseeding
- Fertilising
- Aeration
- Scarifying
- Top dressing
Leaf clearance
NCSL remove autumn leaf and tree debris from sheltered housing and some open spaces and streets.
Play areas
NCSL is responsible for ensuring play areas are clean and safe for use by the public.
This is achieved by:
- Litter picking and bin emptying
- Weeding
- Carrying out regular play area inspections
- Re-grading of safety surfaces
Repair requirements will be received by:
- Reports from play area safety inspections
- Requests from the council
- Reports of damage from the public

Burials
There are two council run burial grounds in Norwich Earlham and Rosary cemeteries.
Norwich City Services carry out grave digging along with grounds maintenance such as grass cutting and shrub and hedge maintenance.
