Self-build register

Recent government legislation requires us to keep a self-build register which includes individuals and groups of individuals seeking a plot of land within our administrative area on which they wish to build their own home. The register will help us to monitor the level of demand for building plots.

Apply to be on the register

To be eligible for entry on the register, you must be:

  • aged 18 or over
  • a British citizen, a national of a European Economic Area (EEA) State other than the United Kingdom, or a national of Switzerland
  • seeking (either alone or with others) to acquire a serviced plot of land in the relevant authority’s area to build a house to occupy as that individual’s sole or main residence.

There is a £50 fee to be added to the register, and thereafter an annual fee of £50 to remain on the register.

How we will use information from the register

By signing up to the register you will help us to monitor the level of demand for building plots in Norwich. We will use the information to explore ways in which it might be possible for people and plots to be brought together but registration does not guarantee that a suitable plot will be identified for you.

We will not pass identifiable information from the register to anyone outside the council without the written consent of the person who registered their details.
