Accessibility at polling stations
All our polling stations are accessible with step-free access.
Each polling station has a polling booth suitable for use by wheelchair users.
The staff are trained and have access to the following equipment to assist disabled electors to vote independently or with the assistance of polling station staff:
- A large-scale copy of the ballot paper
- A magnifying glass
- A "tactile voting device" - this is a plastic device with embossed numbers and tab windows. It can be attached to a ballot paper to help blind and partially sighted voters to vote independently.
- McGonagle reader (available on request) - enables blind and partially sighted voters to mark a ballot paper independently, in secret and with confidence.
- A low-level polling booth
- Pencil grips
Disabled voters can bring a companion (close relative or elector qualified to vote) to assist them to vote at the polling station.
If you have any questions about accessiblity at polling stations, or additional needs to let us know about, please contact the election team at elections@norwich.gov.uk
