If you are struggling to pay your council tax we may be able to temporarily reduce the amount you pay.
We consider each application individually depending on the circumstances. In most cases you will need to show that:
- you are undergoing severe hardship
- there are or personal circumstances that are stopping you from paying
- you do not have access to assets or savings that could be used to pay council tax.
The relief is intended as short-term assistance only and must not be considered as a way of reducing council tax long term.
Before you are considered for hardship relief, other eligible discounts, reliefs, exemptions, discretionary housing payments, valuation office/valuation tribunal action or appeals will be considered first.
