About the Local Plan
The Adopted Norwich Local Plan is made up of two main plans:
- The Greater Norwich Local Plan (GNLP) which was adopted in March 2024. The GNLP sets out the strategy for regeneration and growth in the Greater Norwich area from 2018 to 2038, consisting of strategic policies to guide planning decisions and the site allocations to implement the strategy.
- A GNLP Interactive map is under construction and will be made available in due course.
- The Development management policies plan which was adopted in November 2014. This plan provides more detailed polices used to assess planning applications.
Supplementary planning documents provide additional guidance to support specific Local Plan policies.
Minerals and waste planning policies
Norfolk County Council produces a local plan for Minerals and waste policies. Although not forming part of Norwich City Council’s Local Plan, they are an important consideration in the determination of planning applications in the City. The current and emerging Minerals and waste policies can be found on Norfolk County Council’s website.
National Planning Policy and Guidance
Local Plans have to be prepared following National Policy and Guidance.
The revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) sets out government’s planning policies for England.
Planning practice guidance provides detail on how these national policies are expected to be applied.
