Voter information

The deadline to register to vote for the EU Referendum has passed.

If you are registered as a postal voter, you will also be registered to vote by post in the EU referendum (unless you have requested a temporary postal vote for the last election).

Postal votes

The deadline for registering to vote by post in the referendum has passed.

Postal voting packs will be delivered to postal voters registered in the UK from Wednesday 1 June.  If you applied for your postal vote after Wednesday 11 May and live in the UK, your postal pack will be sent around Tuesday 14 June.

Overseas postal votes

British citizens living overseas who have been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years are entitled to vote in the referendum.  Postal voting packs will be delivered to voters living outside of the UK from Friday 27 May.

It is important to note that the speed of international postal deliveries cannot be guaranteed and so completing and returning your postal pack as soon as possible is essential. Alternatively you may wish to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf as this is considered the more reliable way to make sure you able to cast your vote whilst living outside of the UK.

If you have not yet registered as an overseas elector or registered for a postal vote after the 11 May, your postal vote will not be sent until Tuesday 14 June. We strongly recommend that you register for a proxy vote instead.

Voting by proxy

A proxy vote means that you appoint someone to vote on your behalf if you are unable to get to the polling station to vote,  providing you are on the electoral register.

The deadline for appointing a proxy for the referendum has passed.

However, if you have an emergency due to illness or employment after this deadline, you can apply to vote by emergency proxy. You can apply up until 5pm on the day of the referendum, 23 June, by completing the relevant form. You must be registered and eligible to vote in the EU Referendum to apply for an emergency proxy vote.
