Norwich City Council does not provide a funeral service but we can help with a non-traditional burial (without a funeral director) by offering advice and guidance with the arrangements.
See our privacy notice for information about what we do with your personal data when you use this service.
Natural burials
This involves a burial in an area which creates a habitat for wildlife or which preserves existing habitats. Natural burials are only available at Earlham Cemetery. More about natural burials.
Public health burials
We have a duty, under Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984, to register a death and arrange the funeral of anyone who has died within the Norwich boundary in cases where there are no known relatives or friends able to make the necessary arrangements.
We are entitled to recover the costs of a funeral from the estate of the deceased by selling their belongings or claiming money from a bank account etc.
